Steam User Darth Tealc has managed to decode the in game audio samples from the newly added Portal radio that is scattered in each level, which when taken to the appropriate spot, an audio sample will play.

Radio achievement added and ringing the radios in-game to different spots in each map give soundclips SPOILERS:

I am decoding the images from the radio sounds – here they are – (EDIT: All have now been uploaded)

I have had most of the original Half Life series games since the won.net days, but now seems the perfect opportunity to gift some of my more stubborn un-Half Life playing friends.

Steam hasn’t died! Just some scheduled downtime taking place. If you are in OZ, you will probably be asleep or at work anyway unless you are completing a marathon gaming session.

Beginning at 6:00 pm Pacific time Thursday August 6th, we will be performing software maintenance on some Steam servers. We expect the resulting downtime to last three hours at most, putting the end of the window at 9:00 pm Pacific time.

Some Steam services will be offline during this time. Affected services will include the Steam Community, in-game matchmaking or lobbies, downloading games from Steam content servers, and making purchases from the Steam store. Games that do not rely on Steam matchmaking services should remain playable.

News updates and any further information will be posted in this space.

Steam user Sub-Zero1324 has released an impressive early alpha mod which shows huge potential. Source: This Steam Thread and the new Half-Life 2 Deathmatch Revolution website.

Valve has released a beta SDK and it has various fixes for hl2DM. All slam issues are now fixed and also the third person animations are fixed as well as all the effects and I am releasing a mod soon witch will use the new sdk – orange box.

I had a quick play around with it last night – Damn impressive. The Tau Cannon behaves almost like it did originally without the issues presented byHL2DM pro. Movement, speed are fluid – just need to test in an online environment.

Edit: The box has been opened!

Two of the people involved, Tim Smit and Steven Roeters, recently won a film competition landing them a meet-and-greet with Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters. In an article from their college campus paper following the competition, the pair mentioned they were hard at work on a film titled What’s In the Box? So, unless they forgot to mention Valve contracted them for a viral marketing ad, this one remains labeled as an homage of sorts. Source

Kikizo: You’re not doing a PS3 version of Left 4 Dead. We all know the PS3 version of Orange Box was a bit ropey – did you just decide this time you couldn’t be doing with all that again this time?

Lombardi: [laughs] You know, we didn’t shop the PS3 Orange Box; EA came to us and said, “you’re making this new Half-Life thing, can we make it multi platform?”, and we said “sure”. If somebody came to us and said, “can we do a platform extension of Left 4 Dead?”, then we’d have a conversation with them…

Kikizo: Won’t you announce or show anything on Episode 3 this year?

Lombardi: We may at the very end of the year.

My prediction is that a possible media release will be available on the launch of Left 4 dead.

Left 4 Dead will be released via Steam on the 18th of November with retail following on the 21st November.
